MCAST and Malta Maritime Forum (MMF) signed a collaborative agreement that will strengthen the collaborative relationship between the maritime industry in Malta and MCAST. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the Ministry for Education and Employment in the presence of Minister for Education and Employment Evarist Bartolo.
The collaboration between both parties will continue to strengthen and upgrade the technical skills and competences of persons already working in the maritime sector by providing high-quality training programmes. Through this partnership, the Malta Maritime Forum will support MCAST in the Apprenticeship Scheme by promoting the scheme with the members of the MMF in order to provide work placement opportunities within the maritime sector for MCAST students. The college will support the MMF by ensuring that its maritime-related training programmes are always up-todate and in line with the skills and competences required by the sector. This partnership will also provide training opportunities for students and individuals who wish to take up a career in the maritime sector.
Both parties will nominate a liaison person/s to develop and coordinate specific activities agreed upon to organize the planning of specific educational units and clinical placements.
Minister Evarist Bartolo welcomed this initiative and said that the world of education and the world of employment should work closely together. The Minister added that the maritime sector is very important to our country and there are various specific skills required in this field. Thus, this MoU is a great example of the beneficial relationship between MCAST and the industry.
The official signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the President of the Board of Governors at MCAST Dr Silvio Debono and Chairman of the Malta Maritime Forum Dr Joe Borg.
